Chad's Story

Chad Anothy Barcia was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for 12 years. he was a former student at Holy Name of Jesus Grammar School. He was a star member of the De La Salle High School football, track and field and rugby teams was in campus ministry, and was a Eucharistic minister. He was voted All District Honorable Mention Offensive Line in 2003 and his team was District 4A Champions. He was voted All District First Team and All State Second Team for offensive line in 2004. He was a three year letterman for football as a junior and a two-year letterman for track and field. He placed third in district for the shotput. He was being recruited by many Division 1 colleges for his athletic ability.

On the afternoon of March 29, 2005, tragedy struck the 17 year old while playing a Rugby match. As he returned from a play, he fell to the ground and died. Sudden cardiac death had claimed another young athlete. Chad was six foot four and three-hundred eight pounds. Chad was the picture of health with no medical problems. He had NO warning signs and NO symptoms that he suffered from a "silent" heart disease that tragically claimed his life. he was a typical young adult looking forward to a successful future. Chad was a happy go lucky child who was always smiling and ready to lend a hand.

Let Chad's tragedy be an eye opener that, YES this could happen to YOUR child, YOUR family.
